About Rugby Ignite
What we publish
Rugby Ignite publishes independent rankings of South African school first-team rugby:
- the All-Time national rankings — one continuous rating across every season on record;
- a separate season ranking for each year, with its own page;
- provincial tables ranked by win percentage in matches between schools of the same province;
- weekly ranking updates and end-of-season final rankings in the News section, and automatically generated round reports;
- a ranking archive of dated snapshots, and a public corrections log.
How each ranking is calculated is explained on How the rankings work.
Where the results come from
Every ranking is built from first-team match results captured and verified on Match Pulse, the live scoring platform for South African school sport. Rugby Ignite reads each finalised result — the date, the two schools and the score — and does not record or edit scores itself.
Fixtures, live scores and full results are on Match Pulse Rugby. Ranking tables link to the Match Pulse match behind each school's latest rating change.
What Rugby Ignite calculates
Match Pulse supplies the results. Everything else — every rating, position, weekly movement, provincial win percentage, and the ranking articles generated from them — is calculated by Rugby Ignite. The rankings are not run by any union or governing body, and Rugby Ignite is not affiliated with or endorsed by World Rugby.
Corrections
If a result is changed on Match Pulse, Rugby Ignite picks up the change automatically, recalculates the rankings from that fixture forward and publishes an entry on the corrections page showing which ratings moved. Archive snapshots and generated round reports affected by the change are not rewritten — they gain a notice linking to the correction — and published News articles are left as they were. To report a result that looks wrong, report it on Match Pulse.
How published records are kept
- Weekly and end-of-season ranking articles are fixed when published and are never regenerated.
- The archive keeps a dated snapshot of the All-Time ranking for each day a ranking build is published.
- The live ranking pages are recalculated from the complete results record, so they can differ from an article or snapshot taken earlier if a result was later added or corrected.
- Every ranking build records a fingerprint of the exact calculation settings used, and changes to those settings are logged.
